Remove Distractions For Mindful Eating: An Easy Tip For The Busy Woman

Hi!

I'm Master Trainer Charlie!

In case you're new to my corner of the internet, we’re all about helping The Busy Woman live a more fit and healthy lifestyle!

Here at F3, we believe in realistic eating that conforms to your busy schedule versus dieting, which can leave you feeling restricted when it comes to your meals.  Because of this, let's continue our discussion of mindful eating and how it can be an excellent tool for achieving your fitness and health goals. You can check out my previous posts on food journaling when it comes to mindful eating here, as well as my earlier blog post on rating your hunger here.

In this post, we’ll discuss removing distractions when it comes to mindful eating and how this can help us achieve our goals.

After food journaling and rating our hunger, let's remove distractions when we eat. We can start by putting the phone down and turning off the television.

And yes, putting the phone down and turning the television off while eating may take some getting used to, mainly if you're used to dining while focusing on either.

The key is to remove ALL distractions so you can focus on your eating experience. Eating while distracted makes it easy to overeat and make poor nutritional choices.

However, when you remove all distractions, you can slow your eating and focus fully on your meal or snack. Slowing down while eating has the added benefit of allowing you to better realize your body's cue that you are satisfied (which usually occurs before overeating happens).

Do this by eating slowly and taking smaller bites. If it helps, consider putting your fork down between bites.

Savor the different flavors and textures of your food. The key is to savor the flavors of whatever you're eating. Ask yourself if your food tastes sweet, savory, or bitter.

When you eat, engage your senses to help you notice your food's colors, texture, and smell.

You can also elevate your eating experience by softly playing music in the background. Eating distraction-free can be hard at first, but putting on some soft ambient music may help you adjust.

Fully immerse yourself in your dining experience and watch how you can positively approach eating.
